local yarn sources

I live in Chapel Hill. There are a couple of good yarn stores nearby. Good, not great.
What do you look for in a yarn shop? I think a yarn shop is kind of like a local pub or bar. You could just drink at home, but you go there for the experience and camaraderie.

I want:
a sense of community--a place I can feel welcomed
great stock of yarn, books, patterns and tools
friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff
a place to sit
please be open on Sunday
a website with details of what you stock, hours, directions, and more
offer classes or workshops
sales or discounts

What do you think?

I shop here most often, because it's closest to me. I like the stock they carry. They have good quality yarn and some locally produced yarn. There is also some roving and spinning stock. They have a frequent customer purchase reward card. They offer classes. Some times there is not enough of one dye lot for me to make a sweater. Their sock yarn is limited. I do like the new location.

I wish this shop would improve their website. The owner also owns 2 other nearby shops, so maybe they can update the content and improve the design.

I tried to visit this store, but it was closed. I'll write it up when I do get there.

SHUTTLES NEEDLES & HOOKS

This store is an experience. It's hard to absorb it all in one visit. The yarn selection is DEEP. The store needs better lighting. It was raining and dark the day I went, and it was hard to see the colors of the yarns. The second floor in particular is dark. I've never seen so many Addi Turbo needles in one store. I could have spend the full day there. This store also sells weaving looms and equipment.

This shop needs an infusion of fresh air. The stock is limited. The owner is guarded. I got her to warm up after a while. The store is in a great location, with lots of potential. I was disappointed by the limited selection of yarn. The hand-written signs are just horrible.
